Gambling VS Gaming Report
The evolution of video games has introduced sophisticated mechanics that increasingly resemble traditional gambling activities. This trend raises concerns for young people, who are particularly susceptible to developing addictive behaviours.
To address these challenges, we are publishing the ‘Gambling vs Gaming’ report, produced by our Youth Advisory Board (YAB). This report delves on insights from consultations with young people, offering a fresh, youth-focused perspective on the intersection of gambling and gaming.
The YAB has carefully examined the similarities and differences between these activities, highlighting the blurred lines created by features such as loot boxes and microtransactions. Their observations on the addictive nature, financial risks, psychological impacts, and accessibility of both gambling and gaming are well aligned with current research and regulatory concerns. The YAB’s insights also extend to broader issues of inclusivity in gaming, particularly regarding female representation and the need for diverse perspectives.
